CMS Website: A Website You Can Update Yourself

CMS stands for Content Management System (CMS) - and basically, that means that you can manage your own content, through an administration system (or "backend") that is part of your website. This site is the perfect solution for most small businesses. Why? Because it gives them control over their content. Customers (and search engines) love new content and you don't want to have to pay your web designer every time you want to change a few words! We have clients for our content management systems in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane in Australia.

The great advantage of a content management system (or CMS) is that you can quickly and easily make changes to your web site at any time. You don't need to go to a web designer or buy and then learn how to use complex web design software. You can ADD a new page, DELETE a page, or EDIT a page. You can upload documents, pictures, add links to other websites, and edit the formatting of the page. And, you can do it from any computer connected to the internet, anywhere in the world! You can change one word, or the whole page. Just click "publish" and the change is immediately live. A content management system is similar to using a word processor!

Who Needs a CMS?

A CMS website is the best solution for your business if you:

want to keep your site regularly updated
are reasonably confident with the computer
have images videos or PDFs that you want to add regularly to your website
want your site to get traffic from Google
want a site that can be expanded or extended in the future (via plug-ins and regular updates)
want a site that is completely yours and not tethered to one company for life!

Why Wordpress?

We used to build our own CMS to make it easy for our clients to use.  About a year ago, we switched to a different system - so we now use Wordpress as a CMS (rather than in its traditional form as a blog). Wordpress is an Open Source software package - which means it is freely available to download and use.

The great advantage of Wordpress is that it has a very wide community of support and this ensures that there are regular security updates, feature releases and a huge range of modules to expand the functionality of the system. Of course, Wordpress is also quick and easy to use for page editing purposes. You can update y our WordPress site from anywhere, including an iPhone or other smart phone (just download an App and you are away!).

Wordpress 3.0 was released in 2010. This extends the range of functionality that is available. For example, there are also SEO (search engine optimisation) plugins, photo galleries, blog plugins, ecommerce options (so you can sell things directly from your site), social media plugins, newsletter managers and much more!

You can view a video of how to add and edit pages in Wordpress - so you can see how quick and easy it is to do:
