Our staff have so much experience in internet business that we don't just build websites, we teach people how to build businesses. We are currently teaching two courses through WEA in SA: "How to Get Your Business Online" (a 2-day course) and "How to Sell on eBay" (a 3.5 hour course).

Course Outline: Start an Online Business

Students Minimum Requirements
  • Basic computer knowledge (eg how to use a mouse, how to start a program)
  • Basic internet knowledge (eg how to open a web page, how to navigate a web site, how to search for something on the net, how to send and receive email).
  • An active email account.

What Students Need to Bring
  • If you wish to register a domain name or a hosting account during the course, then you will need your credit card. This is NOT Required or Necessary however.
  • If you already have a domain name, then all the registration details for that domain.  Again, this is NOT required or necessary.
  • Paper and pen to take notes.
  • Lunch!

Description of Course
This course will cover the 7 essential steps to establishing and building a successful online business.  It is targeted at both people who have an existing business who wish to get that business operating successfully online and those who want to start a business online but who don’t have a product or service to sell.  A 70 page comprehensive manual is provided to each student.

The 7 key steps to building a successful online business are:
  1. Identifying a niche market (use an array of online tools and methods to identify some “hot” niche markets)
  2. Developing or finding a product (or service) quickly and at low cost.
  3. Registering a domain name and finding a host.
  4. Designing and uploading a website.
  5. Adding a shopping cart and payment facilities to your site.
  6. Getting traffic to your site (ie marketing).
  7. Converting visitors to customers.
During the course, the tutor will go through each of these steps and explore various strategies and techniques for saving money and time, and for building a profitable online business. The course is fast-paced and will cover lots of terrain.

Course Outline: "How to Sell on eBay"

Students Minimum Requirements
  • Understanding of basic computer operations.
  • Knowledge of how to use the internet.
  • A basic understanding of eBay will help you to absorb more of the content.
Course Aims
  1. To provide students with a good understanding of how eBay works.
  2. To show students how to list an item for sale on eBay.
  3. To show students how to maximise their profits on each item.
Course Objectives
  1. On completion of the course students should be able to:
  2. Register for an account on eBay.
  3. Calculate the costs of selling on eBay.
  4. Find products to sell.
  5. Research a product to see what price it is likely to sell for on eBay.
  6. Understand the elements of a good title and product photo.
  7. Make decisions about length of auction, price, payment method, shipping method etc.
  8. List a product for sale on eBay.
Teaching Methodology

The course will be taught by a combination of lecture and demonstration. An item will be listed for sale (in real time) during the course, so students can see exactly how it is done. Student questions will be answered throughout the session. Course notes are provided.

  4. Core elements of a listing – price, title, description, photos, payment, shipping.

  6. Where to find help and additional resources.
